What's New This Year?

The following information can be found in the August 20th Catholic Advance.

As we approach a new school year, students and parents will see important changes that Bishop Jackels and the Diocesan School Council have approved for the coming school year.

Grading Scale
A -- 92-100
B -- 83-91
C -- 74-82
D -- 65-73
F -- below 65

Graduation/Promotion Standards -- Raised
Beginning this school year, a student must pass every course and every state and diocesan assessment in order to graduate from a Catholic elementary or secondary school or complete 30 hours of successful remediation.

Attendance (Diocesan Policy Handbook)
Punctual attendance is an act of responsible stewardship by parents and students for their parish's gift of Catholic education. Compulsory education law of Kansas requires students between the ages of 7 and 18 to be in school. Being absent for such reasons as vacations, sporting events, school activities where the student is not a participant, shopping, babysitting, or travel is not acceptable, and parents should not ask for their children to be excused for such reasons.

The Clean Indoor Air Act of 2010 outlaws smoking (pipes, cigars, and cigarettes) in all public buildings, which includes Catholic Schools.
